The Lake Caldaro biotope
Bird-watching and hiking through the biotope at the southern end of the lake. It offers food, shelter and refuge to numerous species of fish, amphibians, water insects and birds.
The ice holes
The ice holes are located deep in a forest not far from Caldaro and they are a rare natural phenomenon that can be explained by simple principles of physics: air streams down through cracks in the porphyry stone, creating a system of windpipes, becoming cooler as it descends. The heavier, cold air mass collects in a 5 meter high pool in the depression. This special climate is ideal for plants that would normally thrive in higher alpine regions.
The Peace Path
The peace path, which leads from Caldaro to St. Peter in Altenburg, meanders from St. Anton through the Rastenbach gorge to the church ruins of St. Peter in Altenburg. Along the way, artists have created five sculptures that serve as points of reflection. The sculptures represent the themes of Moderation, Wisdom, Justice, Faith and Hope.
